The Delaware Economic Development Office's advisory committee, the Council on Development Finance, approved the following environmentally-conscious projects in FY16:
AB Group Packaging, an established 30-year-old paper bag and flexible packaging producer with plants in Ireland, Spain and the United Kingdom, opened its first U.S. plant in Newark, Delaware in April 2016. At the Newark facility, workers will be manufacturing next generation, naturally-renewable paper shopping bags and industrial packaging products using smart, innovative techniques and only the most environmentally responsible and sustainable materials from certified sustainably managed forests; offering real points of difference to the marketplace.
EnviroKure, a manufacturer of highly refined, premium liquid organic fertilizers, has developed innovative multi-stage technologies that convert a hazardous agricultural waste (chicken manure) into a pathogen free, low phosphorous product that is sustainable, soil building, and odor free. This product can be safely used in large scale modern agricultural applications that require precision delivery through sprayer heads, drip lines and fertigation, promising increased yields and efficient and targeted nutrient uptake. The result is a plentiful, sustainable and environmentally-safe fertilizer product that can be used in organic applications from agriculture to lawn care.
In March 2016, Johnson Controls Battery Group was approved for funding to assist with the expansion of its manufacturing facility. The project will add approximately 75,000 square feet to the manufacturing space, which will require upgrading older equipment in order to improve its operational efficiency, including lowering costs and reducing its environmental footprint. The company recently ranked 17th in Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazines 17th annual "100 Best Corporate Citizens List."
