Delaware Clears the way for becoming the "First State" to have Off-Shore Wind

Bluewater Wind Delaware LLC, has signed a 25 year Power Purchase Agreement with Delmarva Power to purchase up to 200 Megawatts of power from an offshore wind farm that will be built 11.5 miles off the coast of Rehoboth Beach in Delaware.

Hunter Armistead, Vice President of Babcock & Brown Power Operating Partners says, "This contract is a significant step toward developing Delaware's first offshore wind farm, which will almost certainly be the first offshore wind farm in the country. This offshore wind farm will harness the strong winds off the coast of Delaware to bring clean and renewable energy, stable power rates and new jobs to the area."

Delaware's Wind Energy Forum

As the wind energy market in North America grows, there will be an increasing demand on European wind turbine producers and the supply chain of their components. This demand gives new players in the wind sector the opportunity to establish a presence in the US, either by direct foreign investment or through licensing agreements with appropriate partners.

As Delaware continues to enjoy a global reputation for corporate registration, Judy McKinney-Cherry, Director of the Delaware Economic Development Office, recently attended the European Wind Energy Conference and explained the reasons why our state is most likely to become a strategically important partner for wind energy cluster related businesses. Judy McKinney-Cherry was accompanied by two Delaware companies, Arlon and DelStar - both of which are existing suppliers to the wind energy sector.

The Brussels presentation can be downloaded from: http://dedo.delaware.gov/DEDOBrussels.ppt For information about Arlon please visit www.arlon.com and information about DelStar can be found at www.delstar.com

As Delaware Economic Development Office prepares for its Wind Energy Forum, with invited foreign suppliers and turbine producers to meet prospective Delaware businesses, it will organize meetings within the state to brief the existing business community of the potential in entering this industry sector. If you have interest in learning more of these meetings or wish to be listed as a pre-registered attendee of the Wind Forum, please contact Susan Graham at: Susan.M.Graham@state.de.us or telephone 302-672-6832.
