Filming In Delaware
Easily accessed from New York, Baltimore, and Washington D.C., Delaware's compact size makes filming in a variety of locations a piece of cake -- the length of the entire state can be traveled in approximately two hours. In addition, Delaware has no sales tax and a low accommodations tax -- 8 percent. Other fees associated with production -- property rental, lodging, support services -- are very reasonable when compared with other areas of the country.

Location, Location, Location
Delaware offers a plethora of locations, from rolling hills to level farmland, thick forests to pristine beaches, historic towns to a mini-metropolis. Here is a sampling:

Northern Delaware is dominated by the skyline of Wilmington, the state's largest city. Wilmington offers a variety of urban settings, such as large metropolitan, smaller ethnic, and contemporary urban. Blue Rocks Stadium, Wilmington's minor league baseball field, provides a Bull Durham/Major League look. Only a few minutes west are the rolling hills and elegant chateau country of the Brandywine Valley. Here scenic country roads lined with stone fences lead to quaint shops and picturesque inns. Sprawling estates and spectacular gardens are also characteristic of this area. Old New Castle, along the Delaware River, is a perfectly-preserved colonial village. This town is a favorite among filmmakers -- part of Beloved was recently filmed here.
Central Delaware's rich, green farmland, bordered by whispering coastal marshes, is a sharp contrast to the scenery in the North, though they are less than an hour's drive apart. Roads dotted with produce stands are traveled by Amish horse-drawn buggies. Waterside fishing villages are found along the shores of the Delaware Bay, and colonial Dover offers grand Georgian and Victorian homes as well as a historic Green surrounded by colonial-era structures. Two additional locations are a 122,000-seat NASCAR track and the expansive Dover Air Force Base, home of the world's largest cargo plane.
Southern Delaware's shore has many personalities-- miles of unspoiled beach bordered by grass-covered dunes; boardwalks lined with souvenir shops, eateries, and amusement centers; a historic bay-side village dating back to the 1600s; and a resort town that retains a spring break atmosphere are but a few. To the west are a number of little towns with yesteryear charm, flea markets, and bric-a-brac shops. Many sit on scenic rivers or lakes. This area also features the northernmost cypress swamp in the nation.
