How Business & Industry can Get Involved with Education - Cont'd.

SCIENCE ALLIANCE
The Science Alliance is a non-profit, volunteer-run corporation, whose purpose is to:

+ Enrich the quality of education in Science, Math and Technology for all Delaware students.

+ Improve Science Literacy.

+ Encourage an interest in Science, Math and Technology that will have a lasting effect on careers and futures of students.

+ Improve the perception of Science and related fields.

SERVICE TO BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY
Science Alliance makes it possible for the scientific and technical community to become involved in the education of Delaware students through programs that promote career awareness in Science, Math, and Technology education. Volunteers may participate in the following activities: "What In the World?" - Career Awareness Program SEEDelaware - Summer Internships for students and teachers TECH CORPS - Delaware Chapter.

THE PARTNERSHIP, INC.
The Partnership, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed by the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce to collaborate with education and help build and sustain business involvement in education and workforce development programs. While The Partnership, Inc. manages existing programs such as Superstars in Education, Principal for a Day, Teacher for a Day and mentoring, it also develops new relationships and strengthen existing ones in areas such as school-to-work, welfare-to-work, substance abuse prevention, information technology and work retraining.

Some of the potential school-to-work functions The Partnership can offer are:

+ Facilitation of appropriate strategies to ensure employer participation and a true public/private coalition.

+ Assistance in the recruitment and coordination of businesses into local school-to-work partnerships.

+ Assistance in the development and dissemination of risk- management information to help business/education partnerships build work-based learning opportunities that comply with state and federal laws.

+ Aid to employers in identifying where they can best participate in school-to-work activities.

+ Networking opportunities and workshops to engage business leadership in school-to-work initiatives.

+ Information for employers about new education and workforce development initiatives and how other states' and business associations are successfully developing and sustaining business/education partnerships.
