Delaware's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program

Basics
Delaware's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program is based on five key principles:

  • Work should pay more than welfare.
  • Participants must fulfill responsibilities to receive benefits.
  • The benefits will be time limited.
  • Both parents are responsible for supporting their children.
  • Teenage pregnancy should be avoided, and two-parent families encouraged.

A contract of mutual responsibility emphasizes work parental and personal responsibilities:

  • Participating in work readiness programs.
  • Seeking and accepting a job.
  • Accessing life skills counseling and educational opportunities.
  • Seeing that children stay in school.
  • Having children immunized.
  • Securing financial child support from both parents.
  • Receiving parent and family planning education.

In exchange for benefits, the state of Delaware will provide:

  • Job Placement.
  • Education.
  • Child Care.
  • Health Care.
  • Life Skills Counseling.
  • Job Training.
  • Transportation Assistance.
  • Child Support Enforcement.
  • Temporary Cash Assistance.

Business
Welfare reform is indeed, everyone's business, and Delaware's businesses can fare well under the State's new program called Delaware's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program. Delaware's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program (TANF) will increase the supply of motivated, qualified entry-level candidates available for work. At the same time, Delaware's emporary Assistance for Needy Families Program surrounds program participants with a safety net of the support services often lacking for low-wage earners thereby hindering their success in the workplace.

  • Employer Services offered by the Delaware Economic Development Office (DEDO), the Department of Labor (DOL), Delaware Health and Social Services (DHSS), and the Department of Transportation (DOT) provide a better chance for Delaware's businesses, too!
  • Applicant Job Search and Screening Services, make employer participation "user-friendly." Professional Job Specialists take job orders and help you access the VC Net, the state's automated labor exchange. Applicant searches and screening are tailored to your specific job requirements. We'll even do some applicant testing and provide training and follow-up. Custom Training, pre- or post-employment and based on specific company or industry needs, will be offered and funded by the DEDO. winfo@state.de.us
  • emporary Assistance for Needy Families Program Subsidized Employment Program, provides employers up to six months of wage subsidy in exchange for training participants on-the-job. The employer may hire the trainee as a regular employee, or the participants may parlay the training experience into an unsubsidized job elsewhere. Contact winfo@state.de.us
