High Quality Job Opportunities Coming to the City of Seaford

Seaford, DE - Governor Thomas R. Carper, Delaware Economic Development Office Director Darrell J. Minott joined City of Seaford Mayor Dan Short today to highlight two new incentives to attract businesses to Sussex County - a 60,000 square foot spec building and a premiere high-technology company, both located at the Seaford Industrial Park.

"The City of Seaford is a phenomenal example of the benefits of a strong, diversified economy," Governor Carper said today. "By adding the necessary infrastructure at the Seaford Industrial Park to accommodate companies in this high-paced global environment, the City is positioned to attract top quality jobs to Sussex County."

Mayor Dan Short said, "The spec building that we are dedicating today is the final product of a collaborative effort between the state and the City of Seaford. It is a great example of how state and local governments can work together to achieve common goals and excellent results."

In 1997, the City of Seaford, faced with downsizing of the DuPont Nylon Plant, looked for a way to repel the possible loss of the City's single-largest employer and several thousand jobs. In December 1997, Seaford joined with the State of Delaware to build phase two of the Seaford Industrial Park as a location for high-end manufacturing and technology businesses.

The spec building located at the Seaford Industrial Park, one of Delaware's publicly owned business parks, provides companies considering relocating in Delaware an opportunity to acquire ready-to-go space fitted with water, sewer, electric and other amenities. Tenants of the 372-acre park include Craig Technologies, Inc., Johnson Polymers and Orient Chemical. Any company that is interested in locating in the spec building must guarantee employees will earn an average salary of at least $10.50 an hour.

"The State's three-pronged economic development strategy includes recruiting life sciences, information technology and advanced technology companies to Delaware, and Craig Technologies is one of the state's best high technology success stories," said Darrell Minott.

"The Delaware Economic Development Office and the City of Seaford worked together to successfully recruit this plastic ball bearing business from Pennsylvania to the Seaford Industrial Park in less than three weeks. This is just one example of how Delaware does business - quicker and smarter."

Craig Technologies, Inc. produces precision polymer ball bearings used in a variety of industries including the medical, pharmaceutical and automotive manufacturing fields. These specialized ball bearings are also used in Bic pens. Craig Technologies is a specialty supplier that designs and manufactures the equipment and machinery used in producing their plastic ball products.

Other publicly owned business parks in Delaware include: Garrison Oak Technology Park (Dover), Greater Milford Business Complex, Delaware Technology Park (Newark), Smyrna Industrial Park, Kent County Aero Park (Dover Air Force Base), and Sussex County Industrial Air Park.
