Over 500 start-up entrepreneurs hope for financing at Early Stage East Venture Capital Fair

Wilmington, DE - Nearly 50 emerging companies from North Carolina to New England will look for over $10 billion in venture capital financing at Early Stage East 2000 on Tuesday, June 13th at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware. Early Stage East, the East Coast's premiere early stage venture conference, showcases the hottest companies developing the latest in wireless application technologies, software and other R&D platforms in the IT, life sciences, technology and health care fields.

"We remain focused on promoting true early stage companies and connecting them with the venture investing community," said Richard A. Silfen, Chairman of Early Stage East 2000. "These companies and the entrepreneurs who lead them are creating a world of innovation and wealth creation for our region and the nation."

This year, local start-ups including FingerWorks, Inc. of Townsend, DE, Ifinder.com of Philadelphia and Veritas Medical Technologies, Inc. of Princeton, NJ will make a business plan presentation to a judges panel in hopes of securing start-up financing. This year's Early Stage companies are looking for funding in the range of $1 million to $5 million for a variety of uses including marketing of new products, infrastructure development and company expansion.

In addition, for the first time in the conference's three-year history, several Israeli companies will participate in the conference. Israel is renowned as one of the world's preeminent high-technology research and development centers. In 1999, 12 Israeli firms issued IPOs on Wall Street and raised over $1.9 billion. In January, 2000, IBM chose Israel for its first venture capital investment outside the United States. The Isreali companies participating in Early Stage East include Allergene, Ltd., Lapid Pharmaeuticals, Ltd., Advanced Pneumatic Structures (APS), and Cerel - Advanced Ceramics & Technologies.

For the first time ever, the conference will be broadcast life via the web. If you are interested in covering the conference, please contact Michelle Reardon by pager at 302/474-0087 to arrange credentials or to receive your web access code by no later than Monday, June 12, 2000. You will not be able to access the web without an access code.
