(DOVER, DEL.) - Capture one of Delaware's main streets on film and be eligible to win more than 15 prizes through the Third Annual Snapshots on Main Street photo contest, sponsored by the Delaware Main Street Program. Administered locally by the Delaware Tourism Office, the program is designed to improve economic management and public participation in America’s downtowns. Steven Boyd, State Coordinator of the Delaware Main Street Program, says, "The photo contest gets Delawareans directly involved in promoting the awareness of our historic downtowns. Through photography, our residents can help draw attention to what makes downtown unique - architecture, our small businesses, community festivals, and colorful people." Photos should depict a Delaware main street or a street directly adjacent to a main thoroughfare. Subjects may include architecture, landscaping, people, signage, or events. Judges will review the photos based on ability to capture the imagery of the depicted downtown, artistry, quality, originality, and technique. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Best Overall: One prize valued at $200 awarded to the image that best captures the historic and architectural essence of one of Delaware's eight Main Street communities: Brandywine Village, Delaware City, Dover, Middletown, Newark, Rehoboth Beach, Seaford and Smyrna. Best of Category -- Downtown Streetscapes, Architecture, Seasons, and Everyday: One prize with a value of $100 to be awarded in each of the four categories. Runner Up: one prize with a value of $50 to be awarded in each of the four categories. Honorable Mention: More than six prizes with values of $25 to be awarded. 18 and Younger: One prize valued at $50. Winners will be recognized during Delaware Main Street Month in May 2002. All entries will be part of a special traveling photography exhibit to help promote the revitalization of Delaware's Main Streets. Contest sponsors include: Atlantic Sands Hotel, Clements Mansion, Crysti, Delaware City Soap Company, Daniel Bennett Shutt Antiques, Delaware Made, Dover Community YMCA, The Everett Theater, The Gathering Place, Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant, Lux, The Middletown Transcript, Minster Jewelers, The Mizzen Mast, Peace A Pizza, Olde Canal Inn, PNC Bank, The Raubacher Gallery, Stewart's Awards and Imprints, Village Imports, Vision Center of Delaware. |
